Networking Tips for New Entrepreneurs

Aspen MatiasBy Aspen MatiasMay 20, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

So you’re ready to take the plunge and start your own company. Congratulations! But once you’ve made the decision, what’s the next step? According to Terrence Schehen, the next step is making some connections. Starting a company is a big undertaking, especially when you’re a first-time entrepreneur. You’re going to need all the help you can get.

It’s important to have a supportive network of people who can help you through the initial stages of your business. This is especially true if you’re just getting started. The last thing you want to do is launch your company and not have anyone to help you grow it.

1. Be Genuine

Successful networking requires a certain amount of transparency. People can generally tell when you’re being sincere. If you come across as ingenuine, you’re going to run into trouble building your network, warns Terrence Schehen.

You want to be upfront and honest about your company and the industry. This will allow you to develop real relationships with other people, while also demonstrating your commitment to the industry.

2. Go to Events First Advises Terrence Schehen

Networking can be intimidating, especially for newer business owners. If you’re nervous, start with networking events, advises Terrence Schehen. Attend seminars, attend business meetings, and take part in networking events.

You want to get your feet wet and make some connections before you go straight to asking for help. Networking events are a great way to do this.

3. Build Relationships Before Soliciting Help

Networking is important because it enables you to build relationships with people who might be able to help you out in the future. The most successful business owners use their networks to seek advice and help when they need it.

But before you ask for help, you need to build genuine relationships with people. Otherwise, you’re going to make people feel used and burn through your network. And remember that relationships are two-way streets! You should be offering help and advice to your network in return, says Terrence Schehen.

Networking is an integral part of building your business, says Terrence Schehen. However, it’s not just about approaching people and asking for help. It’s about building genuine relationships with people based on shared interests.

When it comes to networking, there’s no one-size-fits-all formula because every business–and every person–is different. But a good start is to remember to be genuine, stay open-minded, and offer help where you can.
